bio

Flora Dias is a director from São Paulo, Brazil. Graduated in film at UFF (Brazil) and École Nationale Louis Lumière (France). Recently, she defended a master's degree in Visual Languages at UFRJ.

“The Intrusion”, her second fiction feature, was premiered at the 73th Berlinale Forum 2023, and it was nominated to the Teddy Award. It won the prize for Best Queer Art Film at the 27th Queer Lisbon, and also The Best Film at the 24th Nuremberg Human Rights Film Festival. At Brazil, the film was premiered at the 11th Olhar de Cinema Festival, where it won the prizes for Best Image and Best Sound. Also “The Intrusion” made its central American premiere at the 44th Havana International Film Festival, where it also won Best Sound on the Fiction Competition.The film won the Hubert Bals Co-Production Fund, the Swiss fund Visions SudEst and São Paulo Film Company Fund. Recently, “The Intrusion” made it's commercial releases in more than 20 theaters at 18 cities in Brazil.

In June 2022, Flora participated on Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s lab Filming in the Amazon, from where she came back with a new short “Wind Roads” still ‪inedited‬.

Her documentary shorts ”West" and “Mirage” were screened at the 2016, 27th São Paulo Intl. Short Film Festival and on the 2019, 22th Tiradentes Film Festival.

Her first fiction feature film "The Sun against My Eyes" was developed at the 2012, Bafici Talent Campus and premiered at the 2013, 28th Mar del Plata Film Festival.

Now, Flora is developping her first documentary feature film, a partnership with the german director Désirée Pfenninger, on the recent changes on the territory of the brazilian Amazon. And also Over the Plateau, her third Fiction feature, a sequel on her research over ancestrality of people and places.

In 2025, Flora is filmmaker in residence at the renowned DAAD Artists-in-Berlin German Program.
